Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior delivered a scathing assessment of the team’s performance following a dismal 3-0 defeat against Brighton on Tuesday.

The Blues manager accused his squad of lacking essential competitive traits, including “desire, spirit, and courage,” as goals from Ferdi Kadioglu, Jack Hinshelwood, and Danny Welbeck dismantled Chelsea at the Amex Stadium.

The loss marks a historic low for the London club, representing the first time since 1912 that they have suffered five consecutive league defeats without managing to score a single goal.

In an intense post-match tirade, Rosenior distanced himself from the players’ performance, stating he could no longer defend a display that failed to represent the values of the football club.

He emphasised that the loss was not a matter of tactics but a failure of intensity and accountability.

Currently languishing in seventh place and seven points adrift of a Champions League spot, Chelsea’s season is in jeopardy, with an upcoming FA Cup semi-final against Leeds appearing as a decisive moment for Rosenior’s future.

Despite the manager’s public fury, a sense of disharmony emerged from within the squad.

Defender Trevoh Chalobah countered Rosenior’s claims, insisting that the team’s issues were not due to a lack of effort.

Chalobah argued that the players were “running their socks off” and exhaustion was a more accurate factor than a lack of desire.

While he acknowledged the need for accountability and the fans’ growing frustration, he urged the club to avoid the “toxic” negativity currently surrounding the team.

The disconnect between the manager’s criticism and the players’ perspective comes at a critical juncture for the club’s leadership.

While co-owner Behdad Eghbali has recently expressed long-term confidence in Rosenior, the atmospheric tension at Stamford Bridge continues to rise.

With only one victory in their last nine league matches, the Blues must quickly find internal alignment if they hope to salvage their European aspirations and avoid a complete collapse of their campaign.
