The Central Committee of China’s ruling Communist Party commenced its fourth plenary session in Beijing on Monday to discuss the nation’s upcoming five-year development plan, as reported by state media.
President Xi Jinping, who also serves as the general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), presented a work report on behalf of the Political Bureau and elaborated on the party leadership’s draft proposals for the creation of the 15th Five-Year Plan (2026-2030) for national economic and social progress.
This four-day meeting will continue until Thursday and is also anticipated to address new appointments within both the government and the party.
A plenum is a gathering of the CPC Central Committee, which consists of the party’s top 205 officials, along with 167 alternate members.
The Central Committee represents the highest authority in the CCP and is responsible for selecting members of the party’s Politburo and other significant appointments. The gathering led by Xi in Beijing takes place as the world’s second-largest economy recorded a growth of 4.8 percent in the third quarter of 2025.
