The High Court sitting in Abuja has granted politician and human rights activist Omoyele Sowore bail in the sum of ₦200 million with two sureties in like sum.
The court on Monday, presided over by Justice Mohammed Umar, added that one of the sureties must be a traditional ruler from Sowore’s community. The other surety must own a property in Abuja.
He is also expected to deposit his travel documents with the court’s deputy registrar.

The court revoked Sowore’s bail on June 16 for failure to appear.
Delivering the ruling, Justice Umar took judicial notice of Sowore’s readiness to stand trial, as he did not wait to be arrested before appearing in court. He noted that the court will exercise its discretion in granting him bail.
The Counsel to Sowore noted that his passport is with the US Embassy in Lagos and that he will need to appear in person to obtain it so he can submit it to the court.
The counsel went further and prayed the court to release Sowore to them, to enable them to fulfil his bail conditions.
