The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed that its official X account has been compromised in an attempted unauthorised access.
The Director of Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday.
The DHQ said it is treating the incident as a cybersecurity matter and has activated technical measures to secure the account and prevent further access.
“The Defence Headquarters wishes to inform members of the public, the media and all stakeholders that it has detected an attempted unauthorised compromise of its official X (formerly Twitter) account,” the statement said.
Uba said efforts are ongoing to fully regain control of the account.

He also warned the public to ignore any suspicious, unauthorised or misleading content that may be posted from the account while efforts to secure it continue.
“The Defence Headquarters assures the public that efforts are ongoing to fully restore control of the official account,” Uba said.
He added that the DHQ remains committed to protecting information and ensuring Nigerians receive accurate and credible updates on the activities of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
The military authorities thanked the public for its vigilance and said they would provide further updates when necessary.
For official information during this period, the DHQ urged Nigerians to rely on its verified accounts on Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, including the Facebook page Defence Headquarters Nigeria, Instagram handle @defenceheadquarters, and its WhatsApp Channel, Defence Headquarters Nigeria.
