Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former Deputy Governor Chief Benjamin Elue, who passed away at 85, describing his passing as a significant loss to the state and the nation.

In a statement released on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, the governor said he received the news with shock and pain but with gratitude to God for a fulfilled life of service to Delta State and Nigeria.

Oborevwori remembered Elue as a devoted public servant, loyal party member, and experienced administrator whose contributions to Delta State’s growth and stability will not be forgotten.

The governor noted that Elue was admired for “his humility, dedication to duty and unwavering loyalty to the administration he served,” which helped strengthen unity and peace across Delta State.

He also highlighted Elue’s role as an educator, saying the late statesman mentored younger generations and left a lasting legacy of integrity and commitment to public service.

“Chief Benjamin Elue was not only a distinguished politician but also a renowned teacher who devoted his life to mentoring younger generations.

“Chief Benjamin Elue was a man of honour and integrity who served our dear state with passion and loyalty. His invaluable service to Delta and its citizens will remain evergreen.”

Oborevwori extended condolences to Elue’s family, the people of Aniocha North, Delta North Senatorial District, and the entire state, praying that God grants the late elder statesman eternal rest and comfort to those he left behind.
