Former Inspector-General of Police Mohammed Adamu has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) following developments around the party’s governorship primary in Nasarawa State.

Adamu submitted his resignation letter on Monday to APC executives in Makama Ward, Lafia, where he cited dissatisfaction with the outcome and conduct of the primary election process.

In the letter, he said his decision followed careful consideration but was triggered by recent events within the party in the state.

He stated that the way the governorship primary was handled made it difficult for him to continue his political activities under the APC platform.

Adamu added that core democratic principles such as fairness, transparency and equal opportunity, which he said should guide party affairs, were not reflected in the process.

“Today I address my letter to you the ward executives especially the ward chairman of my decision to resign from the All Progressives Congress with immediate effect,” he said.

“This decision was not taken lightly however, recent developments within the party especially the conduct of the governorship primary election processes in Nasarawa State have made it difficult for me to continue with my political activities under the platform of the party.”

“I strongly believe that internal democracy, fairness, transparency and equal opportunity for aspirants and members guide the affairs of any democratic political party.

“Unfortunately the event surrounding the primary election did not reflect this principle and have led to loss of confidence in the party’s leadership and the processes in the state,”he added.

According to him, consultations with supporters, political associates and family members influenced his decision to leave the party in order to pursue his political ambitions elsewhere.

He also expressed appreciation to party members across ward, local government and state levels for their cooperation during his time in the APC.

“After wide consultations with supporters, political associates and family members, I have decided to withdraw my membership to pursue my political aspirations through another platform,” he noted.

“Kindly accept this letter as my formal resignation from the party,” he added.
