A fire outbreak on Tuesday destroyed several shops at Ladipo Market, with goods worth millions of naira lost in the blaze.

Confirming the incident, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), stated that emergency responders were alerted via the 767 and 112 toll-free lines at approximately 12:09 a.m.

“LASEMA immediately activated the state’s emergency response plans and response team from its Cappa Base,” he said.

Upon arrival at 12:16 a.m., officials discovered that the fire had engulfed a warehouse surrounded by shops.

“Investigations revealed that the inferno was caused by an electric power surge after public electricity power supply was restored to the area,” Oke-Osanyintolu explained.

Although no injuries or casualties were reported, the fire completely destroyed a large stock of goods, including electronics, generating sets, bicycles, auto spare parts, phones, and home appliances.

“Valuable goods worth a fortune were, however, destroyed by the inferno,” he added.

Authorities have since sensitized warehouse occupants on safety measures to prevent future occurrences.
