Gunmen have abducted 28 travellers in Zak community, Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area(LGA), Plateau State.

The victims, including men, women, and children, were travelling from Zak village to Sabon Layi to attend an Islamic event on Sunday night.

Sapi’i Sambo, a youth leader in Wase, confirmed the attack, noting that two princes and a religious leader leading the delegation were among those kidnapped.

The gunmen ambushed their vehicle at the outskirts of the community, abducted all passengers, including children, and abandoned the vehicle by the roadside.”

Another resident, Ibrahim Musa, said the whereabouts of the victims remain unknown.

Community efforts to trace the victims have so far been unsuccessful, and security agencies have been notified. 

Alabo Alfred, Plateau State Police spokesperson, confirmed the report, saying investigations are ongoing.

On December 17, gunmen killed 12 people and abducted three more in an attack on miners in Fan community, Barkin Ladi LGA. 

Earlier, on December 14, at least four children were reportedly killed in a reprisal attack in Dorong village, Foron district of the same LGA.
