Efere Kesiena, Managing Director of Adebayo Hospital, where Charity Anani delivered two of her quadruplets after developing complications during labour, has denied demanding payment before treating her.
Charity delivered a set of quadruplets on February 27, 2026. Her husband, Paul Anani, said during an interview on News Central’s Jasiri on Tuesday that ultrasound scans before delivery indicated she was expecting twins, but it was discovered during labour that she was carrying quadruplets.
“Since my wife gave birth, she has not been strong… The doctor asked us to wait so that her body would be okay before we leave… We were in the hospital for more than one month.”

Paul said she delivered the first two babies at Arise and Shine Hospital in Igando, Lagos State, through vaginal birth. During the delivery, medical personnel noticed a third hand, prompting her transfer to another medical facility.
He said they later chose Adebayo Hospital, where she delivered the remaining two babies via caesarean section. The last two babies were reportedly weak, with one placed in an incubator after delivery.
Charity died on April 3, 2026. Before her death, there were allegations that she was detained at the hospital for failing to pay a bill of about N3 million. The baby who had been placed in an incubator had died before Charity’s demise.
Paul also told News Central that Adebayo Hospital did not detain Charity, but was advised to remain in the hospital until her condition improved before she could be discharged.
In a previous interview with News Central, Kesiena said the hospital did not demand payment before commencing treatment and denied allegations of negligence and delayed treatment.

Speaking on News Central’s Jasiri on Wednesday, Kesiena reiterated his position and further dismissed allegations of wrongdoing.
While narrating the events leading up to her admission at Adebayo Hospital, Kesiena said the hospital deployed an ambulance to Arise and Shine Hospital when she encountered complications during childbirth.

“So that day we were called. There’s a woman in labour, and she has delivered two babies, but the third baby, you know, presented with a hand, okay. And we told them to hurry up, this is an emergency, it’s a surgery. And so they actually brought her in. We even sent an ambulance there,” said Kesiena.
“We had to rush in. That’s our policy, and that’s how our boss, you know, that’s his personality. We didn’t talk about money. Let’s go save a life. So we just rushed in, took her in for the surgery and discovered that there was a fourth baby in there, you know.
He added that she was bleeding when she was brought to the hospital. Kesiena also explained why the hospital opted for a caesarean section after she had already delivered two babies vaginally. According to him, it is not advisable for women carrying multiple pregnancies to deliver all babies through vaginal delivery.
“This is multiple births. In fact, if she were our core patient, we would not have advised vaginal birth. That is not something we accept. Hand presentation is malpresentation, you know, that has to be by surgery. Delivery must be by surgery,” Kesiena added.
