An explosion at a military ammunition storage facility on Indonesia’s Java island has killed a soldier and injured six others, the Indonesian army said on Thursday.
Army spokesperson Donny Pramono said the blast occurred during routine inspection and maintenance work at the warehouse in Madiun district. One soldier was killed, while four others sustained serious injuries and two suffered minor wounds.

“One personnel was declared dead, four suffered serious injuries, and two others suffered minor injuries,”Pramono said.
He added that military investigators had been tasked with determining the cause of the explosion.
The incident comes more than a year after at least four soldiers and nine civilians were killed when troops attempted to dispose of rejected munitions by detonating them in a pit.
In 2024, multiple explosions also struck a military ammunition depot on the outskirts of Jakarta, prompting evacuations but causing no casualties.
