Iranian authorities executed Mohammad Aref Shahbakhsh on Saturday following his conviction for participating in a deadly assault on a police station in Sistan-Baluchistan province.
The judiciary’s Mizan Online website confirmed the execution, identifying Shahbakhsh as an operative linked to the outlawed Sunni militant group Jaish al-Adl.
Courts convicted him of armed rebellion and waging war against the state after an attack on the Qaleh Bid police station in Khash City that killed and wounded several officers.

The execution occurs amid escalating clashes between security forces and armed groups in the southeastern region.

Tehran frequently accuses the United States and Israel of backing militant organisations operating within Sistan-Baluchistan.
According to international human rights organisation Amnesty International, Iran continues to execute more people annually than any country other than China, applying the death penalty to broad categories of security and criminal offences.
