Israeli air strikes in southern Lebanon on Thursday resulted in the deaths of two individuals, the Lebanese health ministry confirmed.
The Israeli military stated its attacks specifically targeted Hezbollah members.
According to Lebanon’s official National News Agency, one man died from wounds sustained in an Israeli drone strike that hit his bulldozer, while another succumbed after being injured in a separate strike on a motorcycle. Both victims were admitted to the hospital before their deaths.
The Israeli army said it had eliminated a commander from Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force in the Baraasheet area, along with an operative from the group’s observation unit in Beit Lif. The Radwan Force is considered the military wing’s most specialised unit.
Since a ceasefire was brokered on November 27, intended to end over a year of fighting that severely weakened Hezbollah, Israel has maintained frequent strikes in southern Lebanon, breaking the ceasefire on numerous occasions.
The agreement stipulated that Hezbollah would withdraw north of the Litani River, approximately 20 miles from the Israeli border, leaving only the Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers armed in the zone.
Although Israel was expected to fully pull out its troops, it continues to hold positions in five strategic sites in southern Lebanon.
Earlier this week, three people were killed in an Israeli strike on a vehicle in the Nabatiyeh district. The Israeli military claimed responsibility for killing a currency exchange head who allegedly helped Hezbollah transfer funds to support its activities.
