The Israeli military claimed to have carried out an airstrike against a Hezbollah militant in southern Lebanon on Saturday, while Lebanese media reported that an Israeli drone struck a car, killing one person and injuring another.
“A short while ago, the IAF (air force) struck a Hezbollah terrorist who was engaged in re-establishing terrorist infrastructure and directing Hezbollah terror activities in southern Lebanon,” a statement from the military said on Saturday, March 8, 2025.
“The IDF will continue to operate to remove any threat to the State of Israel and will prevent any attempt by Hezbollah to rebuild itself.”
Citing the health ministry, Lebanon’s official National News Agency said that an “Israeli drone strike” on a car in the southern town of Kherbet Selm resulted in one death and one injury.
Hezbollah military positions in southern Lebanon were the target of “intelligence-based strikes” on Friday, according to the Israeli military, “in which weapons and rocket launchers belonging to Hezbollah were identified.”
It said that the weapons “posed a threat to the State of Israel and constituted a blatant violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon.”
A ceasefire on November 27 effectively ended over a year of fighting between Israel and Hezbollah, which included two months of full-scale conflict during which Israel deployed ground forces.
Following the accord, Israel has persisted in conducting sporadic attacks on Lebanese land.
After missing a January deadline, Israel was supposed to leave Lebanon by February 18; nevertheless, it has retained troops in five “strategic” areas.
Hezbollah was also obliged by the ceasefire to remove any surviving military installations in the south and retreat north of the Litani River, which is roughly 30 kilometres (20 miles) from the border.
