The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to open a Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) centre in Ottawa, Canada, from 2027.
JAMB disclosed the news on Monday through its official social media platforms. The announcement followed a visit by the board’s Registrar, Professor Segun Aina, to the Nigerian High Commission in Ottawa. The centre will allow Nigerians in Canada and other parts of North America to sit for the UTME.
According to JAMB, the proposed centre will make it easier for Nigerians abroad to take the UTME. It will also help applicants seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
“The proposed centre will make it easier for Nigerians in the diaspora to sit for the UTME without travelling to Nigeria solely for the examination,” the board said.

JAMB said the initiative is part of its efforts towards “taking Nigerian tertiary education to the world.” The board also said the centre will “strengthen the connection between Nigerians abroad and the Nigerian education system.”
It added that the move would create “greater opportunities to showcase Nigerian tertiary education internationally.”
For Nigerians living in Canada, JAMB said the UTME would soon be closer to home.
“For Nigerians in Canada, the UTME is coming closer to home,” the board said.
JAMB said it is “working towards establishing a UTME examination centre in Ottawa, Canada, expected to commence operations in 2027.” The centre will serve eligible Nigerians in Canada and across North America who want to pursue tertiary education in Nigeria.
The board described the project as “a bigger opportunity” to strengthen ties between Nigerians abroad and Nigerian tertiary institutions. It added that the initiative would provide “more access” and reduce barriers for Nigerians in the diaspora seeking admission into Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions.
