The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has uncovered a syndicate allegedly using Artificial Intelligence to manipulate the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) registration, the Board’s registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, revealed on Saturday.
Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, Oloyede said authorities are investigating members of the syndicate, who are currently in custody. He added that many of the candidates involved were underage and pushed by their parents beyond their academic abilities.
The Registrar said that roughly 38,000 underage candidates have registered for the 2026 UTME, and around 100 of them were found to have received assistance from the syndicate during registration.

He also disclosed that three senior JAMB officials have been recommended for dismissal for allegedly collaborating in undermining the system, while two other board officials and a staff member of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, are facing criminal prosecution.
“Parents and their children are willing collaborators and cannot be said to be innocent,” Oloyede said.
He added that the board has recommended the affected candidates to Tunji Alausa, Minister of Education, for cancellation of their registration.
