Paris Saint-Germain coach Luis Enrique has described his side’s second UEFA Champions League victory as “even bigger” than their first European title a year earlier after their penalty shootout win over Arsenal on Saturday.

Speaking to Canal Plus during celebrations at the Puskás Arena in Budapest, he said it felt more significant given the challenge posed by Arsenal and the importance of the achievement for both the club and the city.

PSG secured a 4–3 win on penalties after coming from behind to draw 1–1 in normal and extra time.

Arsenal took an early lead in the sixth minute through Kai Havertz, but PSG levelled in the 65th minute when Ousmane Dembélé scored from the spot after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was fouled. Kvaratskhelia later struck the post as both sides remained level through extra time.

In the shootout, Nuno Mendes missed for PSG, while Arsenal’s Eberechi Eze also failed to convert and Gabriel later fired over, sealing the French club’s victory.

Luis Enrique said PSG deserved the win over the course of the season, even though the final was tightly contested. The result makes PSG the first team since Real Madrid (2016–2018) to retain the Champions League title.

The Spanish coach, who previously won the competition with Barcelona in 2015, has now become only the fifth manager to win three European Cups, joining Carlo Ancelotti, Bob Paisley, Zinedine Zidane and Pep Guardiola.

PSG captain Marquinhos said the achievement carried special meaning after winning the trophy in consecutive seasons, noting the squad’s determination and mentality.

The club, backed by Qatar ownership, won five trophies this season in total, including Ligue 1, the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Intercontinental Cup and the French Champions Trophy.

They will begin the next campaign by facing Europa League winners Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup in Salzburg on 12 August.
