Suspected armed herders killed one person during a morning raid on the Ondo community in Benue State’s Otukpo Local Government Area on Tuesday.
The invaders stormed the village around 6 a.m. and fired weapons indiscriminately, forcing terrified residents to flee to the nearby Oyangede community.
Local youths quickly mobilised and chased the attackers, preventing a larger massacre.
Otukpo Chairman Maxwell Ogiri confirmed the single fatality and stated that security agencies are currently combing the forest to capture the fleeing bandits.

This latest violence comes just two days after another deadly raid in nearby Otukpo Nobi.
While residents claimed that the earlier attack killed 16 people, state police spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet confirmed eight deaths and five injuries from that incident.
