Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement presidential candidate Seyi Makinde has promised to serve only one four-year term if elected president in the 2027 general election.
Makinde made this pledge on Saturday during an APM town hall meeting in Yola, Adamawa State, where he also promised to tackle Nigeria’s challenges, including insecurity and poverty.
“Our government will not last beyond four years. And it will be an all-inclusive government,” he said.
The governor’s pledge comes as political parties and aspirants intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
Makinde’s promise mirrors that of Peter Obi, who has also pledged to serve a single four-year term if elected president under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The two candidates’ commitments come amid debate over Nigeria’s informal power-sharing arrangement between the North and South, under which the presidency is generally expected to rotate between the two regions.
President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, who is from southern Nigeria, is seeking re-election in 2027.
Makinde’s proposed one-term presidency and promise of an inclusive government are likely to feature in discussions about leadership, national unity and the country’s political future ahead of the election.
