Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo secured the club’s eighth FA Cup title on Saturday with a spectacular, improvised back-flick, sealing a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Wembley.
In the 72nd minute of a mostly disjointed match, the Ghanaian winger brilliantly directed an Erling Haaland cross into the back of the net.
The triumph marks City’s second trophy of the season following their League Cup win against Arsenal in March, placing Semenyo alongside legendary FA Cup final goalscorers like Ricky Villa and Steven Gerrard.
Ironically, the 26-year-old—who joined City from Bournemouth in January—was born just minutes away from Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge stadium.
The victory marks the third FA Cup triumph for Pep Guardiola, ending City’s streak of consecutive final losses to Crystal Palace and Manchester United.
It brings Guardiola’s total to 20 trophies across a brilliant decade-long tenure in Manchester, though his future remains uncertain with only one year left on his contract.
City now pivot back to a slim Premier League title race.

Currently on a 21-game domestic unbeaten streak, City trail leaders Arsenal by five points.
If Arsenal defeat Burnley on Monday, City can narrow the gap back to two points by beating Bournemouth on Tuesday, though Arsenal would still clinch the league by winning their season finale.
For Chelsea, the defeat adds to a highly unstable season. Currently sitting ninth in the Premier League under interim manager Calum McFarlane, the Blues face nearly impossible odds for Champions League qualification.
Before kickoff, frustrated fans actively protested ownership, demanding the return of “our Chelsea.”
On the pitch, Chelsea utilised a deep five-man defence that successfully frustrated City’s dominant possession throughout a cagey and flat first half.
Opportunities were rare before the breakthrough. Erling Haaland missed from a tight angle early on and later saw a powerful near-post strike denied by Chelsea keeper Robert Sánchez.
Chelsea had a penalty appeal turned down just before halftime when João Pedro went down following a challenge by Abdukodir Khusanov.
Early in the second half, Semenyo missed a close-range header, while at the other end, Rodri cleared a Moisés Caicedo header off the goal line following a mistake by City keeper James Trafford.
Semenyo’s moment of magic, minutes later, ultimately decided the match and handed Guardiola another historic Wembley memory.
