Maradona's "Hand of God" Ball Hits US Auction

The iconic soccer ball that Diego Maradona used to score his notorious “Hand of God” goal during Argentina’s 1986 World Cup victory over England is expected to fetch up to $10 million at a US auction later this month.

Texas-based Heritage Auctions will put the historic match ball under the hammer from August 21 to 23, with an opening bid set at $2.5 million.

Maradona famously scored the contentious goal by punching the ball past the English goalkeeper—a violation missed by match officials—before declaring after the match that the goal came “a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of God.”
