George Moghalu, the former Labour Party governorship candidate in Anambra State, has resigned from the party.
Moghalu announced his decision in a letter dated 26 January 2026 and shared on his X handle on Tuesday. He addressed the letter to the Chairman of Ward 1 of the Labour Party in Uruagu, Nnewi, stating that the resignation took immediate effect.
In the letter, he extended goodwill from his family and formally notified the party of his departure. He thanked the Labour Party for giving him the opportunity to contest the 2025 Anambra governorship election on its platform and asked that his regards be conveyed to party members. He signed off as “Ohamadike Na Nnewi”.
Before joining the Labour Party in October 2024, Moghalu was a senior member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he served as National Auditor. He also previously held office as Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority between 2019 and 2023.
Moghalu resigned from the APC in August 2024, citing personal reasons and the need for a better platform to pursue his governorship ambition. He later clinched the Labour Party’s governorship ticket in April 2025.
At the Anambra governorship election held on 8 November 2025, the incumbent governor, Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), defeated Moghalu and other candidates to secure a second term. Moghalu subsequently rejected the result, describing the election as a scam and alleging widespread vote-buying and other irregularities.
