The naira edged higher against the United States dollar on Friday, marking its first gain after a prolonged slide that began on December 2, 2025.

Figures released by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed the local currency strengthened to N1,454.4123 per dollar at the official foreign exchange window, compared with N1,456.0656 recorded on Thursday.

This represents a day-on-day appreciation of N1.66. Despite the modest rebound, CBN data indicate that the naira has shed about N9 over the past eleven days.

The development comes amid an improvement in Nigeria’s external reserves, which rose to $45.44 billion as of 11 December 2025, up from $44.91 billion on December 2, based on data from the apex bank.
