Naira Slips to Close Week on Negative Note

The naira ended the week on a negative note, trading above the N1,600 mark against the dollar at both the official and parallel foreign exchange markets.

According to data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the naira fell to N1,603.78 per dollar on Friday, 11 April 2025, down from N1,591.84 the previous day.

CBN’s official figures showed a day-on-day decline of N11.94 for the naira.

At the black market, the naira closed at N1,620 per dollar, the same rate recorded on Thursday, as confirmed by several Bureau De Change Operators in Wuse Zone 4, Abuja, on Friday.

On a week-on-week basis, the naira weakened at both foreign exchange markets. The naira depreciated by N36.76, closing at N1,603.78 per dollar on Friday, compared to N1,567.02 recorded on 4 April at the official market.

At the black market, the naira weakened by N60, closing at N1,620 per dollar on Friday, down from N1,560 last week.
