The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticised the City Boy Movement, President Bola Tinubu’s campaign platform, over its alleged extravagant lifestyle.
NDC spokesperson Osa Director, in a statement issued on Friday, accused the group’s officials of flying in private jets and displaying “open luxury” while Nigerians struggle with the effects of government policies.
“At a time when Nigerians are passing through one of their toughest periods under the rudderless APC-led administration, officials of the City Boys Movement are flying in private jets and living in open luxury,” Director said.
The opposition party described the alleged conduct as “a clear testament to how this administration views Nigerians” and accused the government of becoming “insensitive and callous.”
According to the NDC, the alleged lavish lifestyle is particularly troubling because the government continues to ask Nigerians to endure economic hardship arising from its policies.
“This is the same government that keeps asking Nigerians to endure the pain its own policies have inflicted, while it lives in opulence and squanders taxpayers’ money on lavish lifestyles,” the statement said.
The party also accused the Tinubu administration of prioritising a few politicians’ interests over the welfare of Nigerians.

The NDC said the country was “at a precipice” and called on Nigerians to reject what it described as government waste and excessive spending.
“We must collectively reject wastage and the extravagant lifestyle of a privileged few,” the party said.
The party urged Nigerians to vote against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), arguing that electoral action was necessary to change the country’s direction.
The NDC also contrasted its presidential candidate’s approach to public spending with what it described as the APC government’s alleged wastefulness.
“Nigerians can attest to our presidential candidate’s zero tolerance for government waste,” Director added.
The party added that, if its candidate wins, “the judicious use of the people’s resources will be guaranteed.”
The City Boys Movement is associated with Tinubu’s political network and played a prominent role in his 2023 presidential campaign.
