The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior police officers across the Nigeria Police Force.

The promotion is targeted at improving officers’ welfare, boost morale, and reward hard work, professionalism, and dedication to duty.

According to a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, on Saturday, the exercise covers police commands and formations nationwide. The promotion includes 165 Sergeants elevated to the rank of Inspector, 73 Corporals promoted to Sergeant, and 17,714 Constables promoted to Corporal.

The IGP said timely promotion remains an important part of its strategy to motivate officers and improve performance.

“The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior police officers across various ranks in the Nigeria Police Force as part of ongoing efforts to enhance personnel welfare, boost morale, and reward diligence, professionalism, and dedication to duty.

“The promotion exercise, which cuts across Commands and Formations nationwide, comprises the elevation of 165 Sergeants to the rank of Inspector, 73 Corporals to the rank of Sergeant, and 17,714 Constables to the rank of Corporal,” the statement said.

Disu said the promotion shows the Force’s commitment to merit, career growth and institutional development.

“The advancement of deserving personnel reflects the commitment of the current Police leadership to merit, career progression, and institutional development,” he said.

The IGP congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to see their promotion as a call to greater responsibility and service. He also encouraged them to uphold professionalism, integrity, respect for human rights, and commitment to the rule of law while carrying out their duties.
