The Chief Corporate Communications Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Olufemi Soneye, has announced his resignation from the position.

Soneye shared his departure in a Facebook post on Saturday, June 21, expressing gratitude to his colleagues for their support over the past 20 months.

In his statement, Soneye indicated that his decision to step aside was driven by a need to dedicate more time to his family and attend to personal responsibilities.

He described his tenure at NNPCL as an “honour” and voiced pride in contributing to the national oil company’s transformation. Soneye pledged to remain a “steadfast supporter and ambassador” of NNPCL and urged media professionals to continue their “robust, balanced, and constructive reportage” in support of the company’s mission.

Soneye was appointed to the role on October 18, 2023, succeeding Garba Muhammad. Before his time at NNPCL, he had an established career as an international journalist, working in Nigeria, Australia, and the United States.

His previous roles include serving as editor of the US Air Force One Magazine in Washington, D.C., and as president of the Nigerian Media Practitioners in the U.S. capital. A member of various professional associations, Soneye was named “Spokesperson of the Year” by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations in both 2024 and 2025.
