The Ogun State Government has finalised plans to immediately deploy a massive multi-agency security network around schools across the state to protect students from emerging regional threats.
Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the proactive initiative as part of his administration’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and securing the future of the state’s children.
The security deployment combines formal law enforcement with local security outfits, including the Amotekun Corps, the So-Safe Corps, hunters, and vigilante groups.
To ensure effective surveillance and coordination, the state’s new security architecture will actively involve traditional rulers and religious leaders.
Governor Abiodun explained that recent security developments in neighbouring states made these measures urgent, prompting immediate implementation across the length and breadth of Ogun State.
Alongside these security measures, the governor expressed his gratitude to the state’s religious leaders, noting that their prayers and commitment to peaceful coexistence continue to drive the state’s socio-economic development and stability.
Simultaneously, the governor inaugurated a “Direct Impact Committee” to champion grassroots development and economic relief.
The newly formed committee will tour various communities to identify and swiftly address pressing local needs by installing solar streetlights, transformers, boreholes, and other essential amenities.

To further cushion current economic challenges, the state will also launch a programme providing monthly financial support directly to selected beneficiaries across all polling units.
This sweeping security directive follows deep public anxiety over a recent cross-border security breach in neighbouring Oyo State.

In that incident, heavily armed terrorists launched a coordinated attack on three academic institutions in the Orire Local Government Area, abducting 39 students and seven teachers before retreating into the bush.
The attackers killed three individuals during the raid, including a school teacher who was brutally beheaded.
The tragedy exposed severe vulnerabilities in rural school policing across southwest Nigeria, mounting intense pressure on regional governors to secure educational facilities.
The Ogun State Government plans to leverage a hybrid force of state-supported paramilitary groups, such as Amotekun, and local hunters with intimate knowledge of the terrain to build an impenetrable security buffer.
This strategy marks a significant shift toward community-policing models to deter banditry and stop criminal syndicates from exploiting porous state boundaries.
