Ousted President of Mali, Ibrahim Boubacar Keita, has left a hospital after being admitted and treated for a mini-stroke.
Keita was ousted in a military coup on August 18. He was detained for several days by the junta, who finally set him free on August 27 after mediations by the Economic of West African States – ECOWAS.
On September, the 75-year-old was admitted to a private hospital after suffering a transient ischaemic attack. An ischaemic attack occurs when the blood supply to the brain is disrupted for a few minutes, causing stroke-like symptoms such as numbness on one side of the body, vision difficulties or confusion in understanding speech.
He was discharged on Thursday.
Following his release from the hospital, reports claim the former leader may now be heading to the United Arab Emirates for further treatment.
The UAE, it was gathered, has agreed to send a medical plane to pick him up.
Keita who was ousted two years into his second five-year term had in 2013, had boasted that the days of coup in Mali were over just a month into his re-election.
