Oyedele Nominated as Minister of State For Finance

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Mr Taiwo Oyedele as the Minister of State for Finance, in a move to strengthen the nation’s fiscal policies.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, said in a statement on Tuesday that Oyedele’s appointment is to strengthen the country’s financial strategies and fiscal governance.

Oyedele’s will replace Dr Doris Anite-Uzoka, who will move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as the Minister of State. This marks Anite-Uzoka’s third portfolio in the current government, highlighting her continued role in shaping Nigeria’s economic policies.

In a formal letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu conveyed Oyedele’s nomination for Senate confirmation.

Oyedele, a seasoned economist, accountant, and public policy expert, has an extensive background in fiscal policy. Prior to this appointment, he was the chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, a body credited with overhauling Nigeria’s tax system.

At 50, Oyedele has built a solid career with a rich academic and professional background. He holds a Higher National Diploma (HND) in accountancy and finance from Yaba College of Technology, a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University, and has participated in executive education programmes at prestigious institutions, including the London School of Economics, Yale University, and Harvard Kennedy School.

Oyedele’s long career at PwC, spanning 22 years and culminating in his role as Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader, further attests to his expertise. He is also a professor at Babcock University and a visiting scholar at the Lagos Business School, adding academic credibility to his profile.
