Pernod Ricard announced on Tuesday that its negotiations to acquire the American spirits company Brown-Forman have ended without a deal.

The two industry giants, who first confirmed they were in discussions back in March, were unable to find mutually agreeable terms.

Pernod Ricard, the French group behind global brands like Absolut Vodka and Jameson, was seeking to merge with the owner of the iconic Jack Daniel’s whisky in a move that would have significantly reshaped the global spirits market.

The collapse of the deal occurs during a challenging period for the alcohol industry.

Producers are currently navigating a global environment marked by declining consumption and the impact of new tariffs, particularly within the United States.

While Pernod Ricard is valued at approximately €15 billion, Brown-Forman holds a valuation of roughly $12 billion, making the potential acquisition one of the most high-profile pursuits in the sector.

With Pernod Ricard now out of the picture, attention has turned to the Sazerac Company.

The family-owned distiller, which boasts nearly four centuries of history and a vast international footprint, is rumoured to have an interest in acquiring Brown-Forman.

However, Sazerac has yet to issue a public statement regarding its intentions, leaving the future of the Jack Daniel’s parent company uncertain as market pressures continue to mount.
