The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to actively protect their votes and remain at polling units until ballots are counted in the 2027 presidential election.
Obi made the call during a Global Digital Townhall streamed on Zoom, YouTube and other social media platforms, where he discussed voter mobilisation, election security and strategies for protecting the electoral process.
The former Anambra State governor urged his supporters to mobilise voters and ensure that polling agents are present across the country.
“We must stay and insist that votes must count,” he said.
Obi said his campaign was working to strengthen its network of polling agents while collaborating with other political parties to promote what he described as free, fair and credible elections.

Obi warns against vote buying, intimidation
The NDC presidential candidate also urged Nigerians not to allow money or intimidation to influence their choices at the polls.
He argued that accepting money from politicians could deprive communities of funds that could otherwise be used for public services.
“If you collect money from them, that is the money they would have used in security… hospitals… education,” Obi said.
He also called for stronger action to tackle insecurity, urging the Nigerian Government to provide security agencies with the logistics and support required to protect citizens.
“We have security agencies. They must work. We must make sure we provide them with the logistics needed to work. We must make sure we are with them. We must make sure they are properly taken off, and their families are taken care of if anything happens to them if they are not available. We want a president who will lead from the front,” he said.

Obi calls for active participation on election day
Obi urged voters to remain at their polling units after casting their ballots until the votes are counted.
He said active citizen participation was necessary to strengthen confidence in the electoral process and protect the integrity of the ballot.
The town hall formed part of Obi’s mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, with voter mobilisation, polling-agent deployment and vote protection featuring prominently in his message.
