Twenty people have been killed in a multiple-vehicle road crash along Hawan Kibo Road in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The accident occurred on Friday evening and involved a truck, a Hummer bus carrying passengers, other vehicles and a motorcycle.
The truck reportedly suffered brake failure and rammed into vehicles travelling towards Jos.

The impact caused the Hummer bus to catch fire, trapping 18 passengers inside. All 18 occupants were reportedly killed.
Two other people riding a motorcycle involved in the crash also died at the scene, bringing the reported death toll to 20.
Confirming the incident, the Plateau State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Corps Commander Adelaja Ogungbemi, said the crash was caused by brake failure.

“The crash happened in the evening of Friday. It was as a result of brake failure from the truck, which rammed into other vehicles heading towards Jos,” Ogungbemi said.
He said FRSC personnel had been deployed to the scene to manage traffic, clear the road and evacuate the victims.

“Our men have been deployed to the scene and are working hard to clear the traffic and ensure that the corpses of the deceased are deposited at the appropriate hospitals,” he said.
Ogungbemi urged motorists to prioritise regular vehicle maintenance and avoid speeding, stressing the importance of ensuring that vehicles are mechanically fit before embarking on journeys.
He particularly advised drivers to conduct proper checks on their vehicles before using busy highways to reduce the risk of avoidable crashes.
