Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, has said that any lapses in police conduct are the result of individual actions, not institutional failings.
Jimoh made this statement on Thursday during his appearance on News Central’s program, A Place at the Table (APATT).
“Bad behaviour or corrupt tendency or any shortcoming that you see in any way is not institutional; it is personal,” Jimoh said
He explained that the police force continues to train officers to uphold professional standards and ensure proper behaviour.
“We continue to train personnel in the behaviour expected of them and ensure they behave better,” he said.
Jimoh added that when an officer engages in any wrongdoing, the force ensures that prompt disciplinary action is taken to serve as a warning to others.

The commissioner added that any incident involving harm or death needs to be thoroughly investigated, even though citizens are protected when defending themselves.
He explained that the responsibility for suspects’ treatment lies with the police and medical authorities, not members of the public:
“You don’t have the responsibility to be the one to treat such a suspect. It is the police’s responsibility to take such a suspect to a government hospital,” he said.
“Self-defence is another issue of investigation. If somebody enters your house to commit a crime or whatever he has done, and he dies in your house in the process, the police will still investigate, because any death of any Nigerian must be properly investigated, and an autopsy must be carried out.”
Jimoh also congratulated Tunji Disu on his recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu as Acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP).
