SDP Presidential Candidate Slams Tinubu’s Governance

The Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of poor governance, economic mismanagement, and weakening democratic institutions.

Speaking on News Central TV’s Breakfast Central on Wednesday morning, Adebayo said Nigerians will face deeper hardship if the current leadership is allowed to continue without accountability and transparency.

He said that the presidency should not be treated as personal power and that the public office is a responsibility that must be earned continuously through performance.

“It’s a place of work, and if you are doing the work, people can allow you to continue. If you’re not doing the work, you should not be allowed,” Adebayo stated, adding that leadership should be judged by what citizens experience in their daily lives.

Adebayo also referenced President Tinubu’s past campaign comments on electricity, saying that the public’s expectations have not been met. He went further to criticise recent changes in the administration’s economic team, arguing that they aren’t working effectively for improved efficiency or stability.

The SDP Presidential candidate questioned major appointments in the economic sector, expressing concern over the direction of fiscal and monetary policy, and describing some decisions as politically driven rather than competence-based.

According to him, Nigeria’s democracy is being weakened by the dominance of a single political structure, which he said hinders internal party democracy and concentrates decision-making in one centre of power. He stated that such a system reduces accountability and weakens opposition voices, adding that “plurality is essential for a healthy democracy.”

Adebayo concluded by saying that if governance does not get better, Nigerians should not be afraid to use their votes to demand change. He stressed that leaders must be judged by their performance and real results.
