Six suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) have surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Gwoza Local Government Area, Borno State

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Acting Military Information Officer of Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation Hadin Kai, Mohammed Goni, the six suspects surrendered alongside their family members to troops of the 192 Battalion under Sector 1.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the group fled the Guduf Bubayagwa and Chikide terrorist enclaves in the Mandara Mountains of Gwoza Local Government Area.

Troops recovered ₦1.541 million in cash, two Tecno mobile phones and other items from the suspects and their families.

“Additionally, six suspected ISWAP terrorist alongside their families surrendered to troops of 192 Battalion (Main) Sector 1 OPHK. Preliminary investigation revealed that the family escaped from Guduf Bubayagwa and Chikide terrorist enclaves on the Mandara Mountains in Gwoza LGA.

“Items recovered from the terrorist and their families includes cumulative sum of One Million Five Hundred and Forty One Thousand Five Hundred Naira (N1,541,500.00), two tecno mobile phones amongst other items, “the statement read. 

 In a separate operation, troops arrested a suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP logistics supplier at the Molai checkpoint while he was transporting a large quantity of medical supplies without the required clearance. The military said the suspect and the recovered items remain in custody for further interrogation. 

“Relatedly, Troops apprehend suspected BHT/ISWAP logistics supplier in Molai checkpoint in possession of large quantities of medical supplies without due clearance. Suspect and the items are in custody for further interrogation,” it added.

Also, troops of the 233 Tank Battalion, working with local hunters in Sector 2, intercepted another suspected terrorist logistics supplier from Ngirya village in Tarmuwa Local Government Area. The suspect was arrested with five motorcycle tyres believed to be intended for terrorist groups and is currently under investigation.

The military said the latest operations reflect the impact of sustained offensives, intelligence-led operations and collaboration among security agencies and local support groups in disrupting terrorist logistics networks and protecting communities in the North-East.

“In Sector 2 Area of Responsibility, Troops of 233 Tank Battalion in conjunction with Hunters intercepted and arrested a suspected BHT/ISWAP terrorist logistics supplier from Ngirya village of Tarmuwa LGA with five motorcycle tires. The suspect and items are in military custody for investigation. 

“These latest operational gains underscore the effectiveness of sustained offensive operations, actionable intelligence and the seamless collaboration among security agencies and auxiliary forces in dismantling terrorist logistics networks, disrupting criminal activities and protecting vulnerable communities across the North East,” the statement added. 

The military also assured the public that ongoing search-and-rescue efforts for abducted victims would continue until all those kidnapped are safely reunited with their families.

It warned individuals involved in supplying food, fuel, construction materials, transport or other forms of logistical support to terrorist groups to stop immediately, stressing that anyone found aiding or collaborating with insurgents would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

“Headquarters Operation HADIN KAI assures the public that ongoing Search and Rescue operations will continue with unwavering resolve until every abducted person is accounted for and safely reunited with their families. 

“The Theatre Command also issues a stern warning to individuals involved in supplying food, fuel, construction materials, transportation or any other form of logistics to terrorist groups to immediately desist. Anyone found aiding, abetting or collaborating with terrorist elements, directly or indirectly, will be identified, apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law, ” the statement read.
