Spain’s Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel Albares, has urged his Iranian counterpart to negotiate with the United States (US) in good faith during discussions in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital.

He told reporters that he had spoken to Abbas Araghchi and asked him to halt all missile and drone attacks during the two-week ceasefire.

“I encourage Iran, this is what I conveyed to the Iranian foreign minister, to take part in those negotiations and to participate in good faith,” said Albares.

The Spanish Foreign Minister also criticised Israel for continuing its attacks on Lebanon, where it has been fighting the Iran-backed militant group Hezbollah.

“Lebanon is a disgrace on the conscience of humanity. The level of violence, the violation of international law and international humanitarian law by Israel is unacceptable,” he added.

Part of Iran’s demands in its 10-point plan is a “cessation of war on all fronts, including against the heroic Islamic Resistance of Lebanon (Hezbollah)”.

Although Israel halted attacks on Iran, it continued to strike Lebanon. Over 200 people were reportedly killed by Israel’s strikes against Lebanon after the ceasefire agreement.

Iran and US officials will meet in Islamabad to discuss the two-week ceasefire and explore options for it metamorphosing into a permanent end to the war, which has persisted for a month.
