Several pupils are feared abducted after suspected Boko Haram insurgents invaded Mussa primary and junior secondary school in the Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday.

The attackers reportedly stormed the Primary and Junior Secondary School in the Mussa community, located near the Sambisa Forest, at about 9 a.m. and took away an unspecified number of pupils.

President of the Borno South Youth Alliance, Samaila Kaigama, who confirmed the incident, said information available to him indicated that the assailants were linked to the same faction responsible for the recent Ngoshe kidnapping.

He explained that the insurgents carried out the operation without resistance after arriving in the community in the morning.

“Yes, they came this morning; they packed some children, number unspecified yet. I was reliably informed that the abductors are the same faction that did the Ngoshe kidnapping,” he said.

“They came this morning and picked some primary school pupils. It is a day school and not a boarding school. They attacked without any resistance.

“It happened around 9 am today,” he added.

Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdullahi Askira, also confirmed the attack but noted that details surrounding the number of abducted students remained unclear.

According to him, many pupils fled into nearby bushes during the attack, while reports suggested the insurgents struck shortly after troops on patrol had left the area.

“Details of the attack are sketchy, but the information at my disposal has it that many of the students fled into the bush, but I don’t have details of those abducted,” he said.

Spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, said the command was still verifying details of the incident and had yet to receive comprehensive information.

“As of now, I have not gotten any information. We are still making verification,” he said.
