Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has rejected her six-month suspension from the Nigerian Senate, declaring it illegal and a violation of natural justice, fairness, and equity.
The Senate on Thursday suspended Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for six months following her allegation of sexual harassment against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
As part of the suspension, she must surrender all National Assembly property, relinquish her security details, and vacate her office, which will be sealed by the Sergeant-at-Arms to restrict access.
In a statement issued on Thursday, March 6, 2025, the senator reaffirmed her legitimacy as an elected representative, vowing to continue serving her constituents despite the suspension.

Against the culture of silence, intimidation, and victim-shaming, my unjust suspension from the Nigerian Senate invalidates the principles of natural justice, fairness, and equity,” she stated.
She further emphasised that the suspension does not strip her of her mandate, asserting:
“The illegal suspension does not withdraw my legitimacy as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and I will continue to use my duly elected position to serve my constituents and country to the best of my ability till 2027… and beyond.”
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s statement reinforces her determination to remain active in legislative duties despite the Senate’s decision.
