South African police have found another woman’s body in Ekurhuleni, east of Johannesburg, bringing to 10 the number of women found dead in the municipality over the past two months.
The latest discovery was made on Saturday in Tembisa township, although police did not immediately provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the death.
Police spokeswoman Brigadier Brenda Muridili said investigators and other relevant authorities had been deployed to the scene to preserve evidence and begin processing the crime scene.
“At this stage, we can only confirm the discovery of the body. Crime scene management and all the necessary role players are currently on the scene,” Brenda Muridili said.
Local television station eNCA reported that the body was found in a cemetery and was semi-naked.
The nine other victims were mostly women in their 20s and 30s. Some were found partially or fully undressed, with indications of sexual assault.
The first victim, a 37-year-old woman, was found naked and restrained with cable ties on July 15. A suspect was arrested two days later.
Two other suspects, women aged 31 and 38, were arrested in connection with the ninth victim and charged on Monday. Police have said that the case may have been linked to a relationship-related dispute.

Authorities are investigating whether the deaths are connected.
The latest killing has renewed concern over violence against women in South Africa, where gender-based violence remains a major problem despite repeated government efforts to address it and its declaration as a national disaster.
South Africa, with a population of about 62 million, also has one of the world’s highest murder rates, with more than 60 people killed each day on average.
