President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the deployment of three ambassadors-designate from the list of 68 nominees earlier confirmed by the Senate, signalling the gradual activation of Nigeria’s foreign diplomatic missions.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Ambassador Ayodele Oke has been cleared to assume duties as Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to France, while Colonel Lateef Are has been approved as ambassador-designate to the United States. Ambassador Amin Dalhatu, who previously served as Nigeria’s envoy to South Korea, has also been designated as high commissioner to the United Kingdom.
The Presidency said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been directed to formally notify the governments of the three countries in line with established diplomatic protocols.
The approval covers only three postings, leaving several other ambassadorial positions still to be filled, despite the Senate confirming 68 nominees in December.
