The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a traffic diversion on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to allow for repairs on the Kara Bridge.
The Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Olayiwola Komolafe, stated in a travel advisory released on Saturday that the maintenance work would entail replacing damaged expansion joints on the bridge’s outbound Lagos section.
According to the advisory, the repair work is scheduled to begin on March 10, 2026, and is expected to last for about two weeks, ending on March 24.

Motorists have been urged to use alternative routes during the period to reduce traffic congestion around the work zone.Â
Drivers travelling from Ikorodu toward Mowe, Sagamu, or Ibadan were advised to pass through Shimawa or Mosinmi. Meanwhile, motorists departing Lagos Island can use the Epe axis via Ijebu-Ode to reach Sagamu, Ibadan, or Mowe.
The ministry also cautioned drivers that the shortest route might not always be the fastest and advised them to plan their journeys early, follow traffic management instructions, and exercise caution near the construction area.
It acknowledged that the temporary partial closure could cause inconvenience but appealed to road users for cooperation while the repairs are carried out to improve the safety and durability of the highway.
