Trump: Planned Arch Will Serve as Military Base

US President Donald Trump announced plans on Sunday to convert a massive proposed triumphal arch in Washington into a military facility for drones and snipers.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the structure will house and deploy large numbers of drones, accommodate snipers along its roof and plaza, and store sniper ammunition.

He claimed the project along the Potomac River near Arlington National Cemetery will give Washington the world’s greatest triumphal arch.

The proposed complex represents Trump’s latest effort to alter the capital’s landscape without congressional approval.

Due to its size, the arch will block the line of sight between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery.

The project joins several controversial renovation initiatives launched since January 2025, including a White House ballroom construction that required demolishing a wing of the building, a major overhaul of the National Mall’s Reflecting Pool, and a brief, legally overturned attempt to place his name on the Kennedy Centre.
