President Donald Trump said Thursday he would try to attend his eldest son’s wedding in the Bahamas this weekend, but warned that the ongoing war with Iran had created “bad timing.”

Donald Trump Jr, 48, is set to marry Bettina Anderson in the Bahamas, US media reported.

“He’d like me to go. It’s going to be just a small little private affair and I’m going to try and make it,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office when asked if he would attend.

“I said, ‘This is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things.'”

The US president is currently working on a deal to end the unpopular war with Iran, which has sunk his poll ratings and sparked voter anger over the cost of living ahead of November’s midterm elections.

Trump acknowledged that media coverage of his attendance would be critical regardless of his decision.

“That’s one I can’t win on. If I do attend, I get killed. If I don’t attend, I get killed — by the fake news of course,” he said.

“Hopefully they’re going to have a great marriage.”

Don Jr. is a prominent supporter of his father’s right-wing MAGA political agenda and is frequently spotted with the president. He serves as executive vice president at The Trump Organisation.

He stated last year that he might run for president “maybe one day.” Until January 2029, Trump will serve his second and final term; he has not yet designated a successor.
