Turkey Condemns Drone Attacks on Azerbaijan

Turkey on Thursday strongly condemned a series of drone attacks on Azerbaijan, which authorities in Baku blamed on Iran.

In a statement issued by the Turkish foreign ministry, Ankara denounced the strikes and warned that such actions could escalate tensions in the region.

“We strongly condemn the drone attacks carried out today on Azerbaijan,” the ministry said, stressing that the incidents risk widening the conflict and destabilising neighbouring areas.

The ministry added that the attacks “increase the risk of the war spreading” and urged those responsible to halt such actions without delay. It insisted that the strikes “must end immediately”, underscoring Turkey’s support for Azerbaijan amid growing regional tensions.

According to Azerbaijani authorities, drones launched from Iranian territory struck the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, an exclave bordering Iran and Turkey. One drone reportedly hit the terminal building of the region’s international airport, injuring civilians and damaging infrastructure, while another landed near a school.

The incident has further strained relations between Azerbaijan and Iran, with Baku demanding an explanation and warning that the attacks would not go unanswered.

The drone strikes come amid broader geopolitical tensions involving Iran and several neighbouring states. Analysts warn that continued attacks could heighten instability across the South Caucasus and beyond.

Iran has denied involvement in the strikes.
