A court in Johannesburg has adjourned alleged UK fugitive Ndodana Tshuma’s case to October 21, 2026, over ongoing plea negotiations.
Tshuma appeared before the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. Magistrate Sindisiwe Malindi said negotiations between Tshuma and the State were not yet complete.
“The court has been informed that the negotiations between [Tshuma] and the state are not yet finalised as far as the plea and sentence agreement is concerned,” Malindi said.
She adjourned the case to October 21. Malindi said the court would proceed with Tshuma’s plea if the agreement was finalised by then.
“If everything is in order and the agreement has been finally reached, we will proceed with your plea,” she said.
Tshuma is wanted in the United Kingdom over the alleged murders of his wife, Nothabo, and their two daughters, Natalie and Nala. The bodies were found at the family’s home in Bedfordshire. Post-mortem examinations found that the three victims died from blunt force trauma. Nothabo and her daughters were later buried side by side at the Old Luveve Cemetery in Zimbabwe.
Tshuma has already pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. He also pleaded guilty to illegal entry into South Africa. The charges must be resolved before extradition proceedings to the UK can continue.
After Tshuma’s first court appearance in July, National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga said he must first face South African charges.
“The NPA remains committed to working with both local and international law enforcement to ensure justice is served,” Mhaga said.
Tshuma is believed to have fled to South Africa after the alleged murders. Police later arrested him in Kensington, Johannesburg. Police arrested him after INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau in Pretoria received a request from UK authorities. The request followed an arrest warrant issued by the Westminster Magistrates’ Court in the UK.
According to the extradition request, Tshuma is wanted in Britain on three counts of murder. Tshuma initially entered South Africa legally through OR Tambo International Airport in July.
However, his immigration status later changed because he became a fugitive. Under South Africa’s Immigration Act, he is now regarded as both a prohibited and undesirable person. He is therefore considered to be in the country unlawfully.
The case will return to the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court on October 21, when the plea and sentencing agreement is expected to be finalised.
