The United Nations (UN) Chief, António Guterres, has condemned attacks on civilian infrastructure in Iran and across the region, warning that such strikes are unacceptable following rising tensions between Iran and the United States.

UN Secretary-General Guterres expressed concern on Friday over the continued military escalation between the two countries.

“The Secretary-General remains deeply concerned by the continuing military escalation between Iran and the United States of America,” his spokesperson, Farhan Haq, told reporters.

Guterres was particularly worried about reports of attacks on civilian facilities, including infrastructure in Iran and other parts of the region.

“He’s particularly concerned about attacks on civilian infrastructure in Iran and across the region. Such attacks are unacceptable,” Haq said.

Iran had accused the United States of targeting civilian infrastructure, including bridges and transport hubs, during recent airstrikes.

However, the United States has not confirmed Iran’s claims that civilian sites were targeted.

The latest development comes as tensions continue to rise following renewed military exchanges between Washington and Tehran.
