The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced late Sunday that it was lifting flight restrictions, allowing US flights to return to normal operations starting Monday morning.
These reductions were imposed during the record-setting 43-day government shutdown, which had led to thousands of flight cancellations nationwide.
During the budget impasse, understaffing due to air traffic controllers being asked to work without pay led to approximately 10 per cent of domestic flights being cut across the 40 busiest US airports.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy noted that the focus will now shift to surging controller hiring and modernising the air traffic control system.
The return to regular schedules is timely, occurring just before the anticipated heavy travel volume for the Thanksgiving holiday.
