The Lagos Water Corporation has announced a temporary disruption of the water supply in parts of Lagos.

The corporation, in a statement on Tuesday, said the temporary disruption would allow for repair and replacement works at the Adiyan I Water Treatment Plant.

The affected areas include Akiode, Ikeja, Magodo, Oregun, Ketu, Ojota, Maryland, Aromire, Ogudu, Gbagada, Shomolu, Ojuelegba, Oyingbo, Ijora Olopa, Agege, and parts of Lagos Island.

It explained that continuous water discharge from the leakage has saturated the surrounding soil, weakening the ground and posing safety risks to heavy construction equipment, such as cranes and excavators, working in the area.

“It was observed that the persistent water discharge from the leakage point is saturating the surrounding soil, thereby compromising ground stability and posing safety risks to heavy construction equipment, including cranes and excavators, currently deployed in the affected area,” it stated.

The Lagos Water Corporation said the leakage has also affected construction work on the Adiyan Phase II project.

To allow the repairs to be carried out safely and effectively, the corporation said the Adiyan I Water Treatment Plant will be shut down temporarily until the work is completed.

The corporation assured residents that efforts are underway to complete the repairs as quickly as possible and that the normal water supply will be restored once the work is complete.
