South Africa’s No. 8, Jasper Wiese, has received a four-match ban from World Rugby for head-butting Italy prop Danilo Fischetti during last weekend’s Test match in Gqeberha.
The 29-year-old loose forward will now miss several key fixtures.
Wiese will be sidelined for Saturday’s one-off Test against Georgia in Mbombela, followed by three Rugby Championship matches: two home games against Australia and an away clash against New Zealand in Auckland.
He is expected to return for the Springboks’ second encounter with the All Blacks in Wellington on September 13.
Following this, the Springboks will round out their Rugby Championship schedule with two matches against Argentina before embarking on a November tour to Europe, where they will face France, Italy, Ireland, and Wales.

Wiese received a red card just 22 minutes into the second Test against Italy, at a point when South Africa held a 10-point lead. Despite his early exit, the reigning Rugby World Cup champions went on to secure a dominant 45-0 victory.
His younger brother, Cobus Wiese, who made his Test debut last Saturday, will step into his position for the upcoming game against Georgia.
Jasper Wiese previously played for the Cheetahs and Leicester Tigers before moving to Japanese club Urayasu D-Rocks last year.
