A 30-year-old Nigerian politician, Anthony Osarobo, has become the youngest chairman in the history of Ovia South-West Local Government Area in Edo State after winning the local government election held on Saturday.

Osarobo, under the All Progressives Congress (APC), was declared Chairman-elect after securing 98,994 votes across the council’s 10 wards.

The Returning Officer, Dr Arodoye Nosakhare, announced the result at the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) Local Government Collation Centre.

“After the collation of results across different party lines, the APC chairmanship candidate, having scored the majority of valid votes, is hereby returned elected,” Dr Nosakhare declared.

According to the official results, the APC won by a wide margin, while the other 11 political parties recorded only a few votes.

Reacting to his victory, Osarobo thanked the people of Ovia South-West for their support and promised to justify their confidence.

“I am happy to have emerged as the Chairman-elect of Ovia South West. I do not take this victory for granted because it was made possible by the support and confidence reposed in me by the people. I will use this mandate to work tirelessly for the development and progress of Ovia South West,” he said.

Also, the Edo State Commissioner for Livestock Development, Prof. Ikponmwonsa Omorodion, congratulated Osarobo, describing the election as peaceful and transparent.

He expressed confidence that the Chairman-elect would deliver on his campaign promises and bring development to Ovia South-West.
